THE BOMBSHELL HAIR BLOWOUT BREAKDOWN:

1. PREP HAIR FOR BOUNCY BLOWOUT, HIGH-VOLUME + A GLOSSY FINISH

Spray damp roots with Color Wow Raise the Root Thicken + Lift Spray to encourage major volume. Made with flexible, translucent polymers, this spray forms a “spring” around each strand, causing your hair to instantly lift off your scalp and maintain lasting volume. And because it has a flexible formula (aka, it won’t leave your hair feeling stiff AF), your hair moves naturally, which is key for that bounce factor.

Next, saturate your midlengths and ends with Color Wow Dream Coat Anti-Humidity Spray: the #1 anti-frizz spray that wraps each strand in a water-proof “coat”, transforming your soon-to-be bombshell hair into a liquidy, glassy, smooth texture – a must for ensuring supple, silky strands that you have total control over. Gently brush through hair to evenly distribute product. Roughly dry hair so it’s not sopping wet.

2. BLOWOUT HAIR IN SECTIONS

First, split hair into four sections using a tail comb. Starting on one side, section out the front of your hair from your crown to the top of your ear and clip aside. Then, section from the middle back of your crown to the nape of your neck and clip aside. Repeat sectioning on the other side.

“This for me is the easiest way to get a good blowout,” Chris Appleton says. “This will help you guide your blow dry for that perfect result. And also stop you from getting in a fumbled mess.”

Next, blow dry one section at a time. Using a large round bristle brush and a hair dryer with a concentrator nozzle, blow dry down the section of hair. “We don’t want to blow dry the hair up because effectively it’s just gonna go frizzy. We have to blast it down and keep it really smooth all the way to the ends,” Chris says.

When your hair is about 90% dry, wrap the section of hair around the brush and use the cool button on your hair dryer to set the hair. This is a great way to give your strands style memory and lock in the bounce, Chris says. Release hair. At this point your roots should look majorly lifted. To ensure lasting volume, roll the section up and pin in place. Repeat on all four sections. Leave to set for 5 minutes.

“[This] really enhances the blowout, and makes it set into place,” Chris says. “If you just let it drop, trust me, the blow dry won’t last as long, it won’t look as hot, and you definitely won’t get as much bounce.”

3. The Secret to Big Bouncy Hair? Velcro Rollers

Here’s how to put velcro rollers in your hair for volume. Starting at the front of your head, roll hair away from your face, moving down your part in sections. This will make your part disappear, giving you the freedom to flip your blowout to either side. Roll the sides and back of your head under toward your roots to further encourage the volume you’ve already created. “At this point you don’t have to worry about being too perfect with the positioning of the rollers. Really what we want to do is enhance what we’ve got,” Chris says. Let set for 10-15 minutes. Then, remove rollers and gently brush out hair using a boar bristle brush.

4. FINISHING TOUCHES: Teased Hair + Added Shine

For extra hold and lift in the front… Use your tail comb to gently tease the root of your hair, spritz with hairspray and let set with a setting clip. Remove after a few minutes.

To open up your face… Spray a brush with hairspray, then brush the side of your hair back and over the top of your ear. Let set with a setting clip. Remove after a few minutes.

For enhanced shine… Go over your top layer of hair with a flat iron to further intensify Dream Coat’s glossy finish. “I like to run it over the top of the hair for a little more shine. Just to give you that polished look and stop the hair from looking dry,” Chris says. Not to mention it makes your color pop, which is the perfect finishing touch to your bouncy, voluminous, glossy, bombshell blowout.

From Los Angeles to New York, and London to Paris, Chris is known for his work as a world-renowned conceptual hair stylist, highly sought after by some of the biggest names in music, entertainment, fashion, and advertising.
